Prayer And Peace
One day Albrecht Duerer, the 15th Century German artist, saw a monk at prayer. He was so impressed that he produced the sketch that became know throughout the world as the famous "Praying Hands."
Our artist and others have adapted it in various inspiring forms. The hands are strong, capable of labor, and yet folded in adoring devotion to Almighty God.
An old Latin phrase was "Orare est Laborare," that is, "to pray is to work." Conversely, if our labor is within the will of God, "Laborare est orare." "To work is to pray."
A young woman once asked a devout clergyman how best to pray. He said, "Here are three brief prayers, each of three words and they are the heart of prayer: Lord have mercy. I adore Thee. Into Thy Hands."
The doves winging their way in the rays of heavenly light suggest the Holy Spirit and peace in the light of celestial inspiration, streaming down from the Throne of God.
In the spirit of prayerful devotion and faithful work we shall bring our Offering, and shall pray that the blessing of heavenly peace will rest upon all of the Lord's people.
