Description

This is a study of the section The Economic Community (paragraph 163) in the "Social Principles" in the Book of Discipline and relevant material in the Book of Resolutions of The United Methodist Church.

The 9 sessions address:

  • Changing Nature of Communities (Property)
  • Laboring Together (Collective Bargaining)
  • Working at Our Work (Work and Leisure)
  • Vacation and Sabbath: Necessities or Luxuries? (Work and Leisure)
  • Stewardship in a Consumerist Culture (Consumption)
  • Caring about the Poor and the Hungry (Poverty)
  • Sojourners in Our Midst (Migrant Workers)
  • Gambling in America (Gambling)
  • Corporate Responsibility (Corporate Responsibility)

Participants will experience how current events intersect with the Scriptures and Christian belief. More than a study of the issues, participants will learn how individual Christians and congregations use United Methodist teachings to shape relevant ministries in their communities. These self-contained (stand alone), short-term studies are complete with session plans, activities, discussion questions, and after-session strategies for living out Christian faith.
