Communion is also known as Holy Communion, The Lord's Supper, and The Eucharist (from the Greek word for thanksgiving). The bread and wine (or juice of the grape) used in the service are known in liturgical traditions as the Elements. Communion is a Christian sacrament. The sacraments are outward, visible signs of an inward, spiritual grace. Communion recalls the last supper of Jesus with the disciples and Christ's continuing presence with us.
Containers for the wine and water used at communion, Cruets have handles and tops (either a removable stopper or a lid that can be raised). Cruets come in pairs, one to contain water and one to contain altar wine. Both the water and the wine are mingled together in the chalice during communion. Cruets should be held in the palm of the hand with handles facing out when the celebrant or other person will be pouring. When the server is to pour from a cruet it should be held by the handle.
