“Christianity is only one generation away from extinction.”
I wish I could tell you who first said that, but I do not know. The truth of the statement, however, is readily apparent: If the knowledge about Christ and the testimony of faith is not passed on from parents to children, from elders to youth, and from those convinced of the faith to those who have not yet heard the good news, Christianity will either die out or be reduced to a historical phenomenon.
The same generation-to-generation linkage is true of many other things as well. Most education includes a passing of information, conclusions, and sometimes values from one group to another. With Christianity, what is passed is not only information, but passion, zeal, and a sense that the meaning of life is glimpsed through Jesus Christ.
In this lesson we learn something about how the Christian faith came to Timothy. In the process, we will have the opportunity to think about our faith legacy and how we should use it.
