Frequently Asked Questions

Is this study for United Methodists only?
No. It is an ecumenical study. DISCIPLE Bible study is active in thirty-four denominations.

Can I use DISCIPLE in my Sunday school class?
Yes, you can, but you will need to expand your Sunday school time to allow for the 2 1/2-hour group meeting. The group leader can use the new Disciple Sunday School Leader edition to adjust the group time lesson plan. Students will still need to read their daily assignments using the Disciple I Study Manual.

How small or large can a group be?
Groups of at least eight and no more than fourteen will function best.

I want to begin a youth DISCIPLE study. What is the recommended age?
We recommend that youth participants be tenth grade or older. 

Can we break up a study into smaller sections?
Yes, you can. The most feasible break occurs at midpoint. Consider breaking between Old Testament and New Testament portions.

Do I need to attend training to be a DISCIPLE leader?
We strongly encourage prospective leaders of any DISCIPLE study to attend a training seminar. People generally lead as they were led. However, training is not required.

DISCIPLE graduates who have led other studies of DISCIPLE but have never been to training usually approach DISCIPLE resources and group process in the same way they first experienced it. Training offers actual hands-on experience with the resources and the additional components used with each study. DISCIPLE graduates who attended a training seminar in the past can expect to recover a fresh sense of commitment to the DISCIPLE program and process.

Can the DISCIPLE videos be purchased individually, or do they have to be purchased in a set? What is the cost?
Individual DISCIPLE videos are available. Prices vary from study to study. Also, all videos can now be purchased on DVD. You may call 800-251-8591 to order or to check the price of the video you need.

What is the recommended Bible for study?
Choose a good study Bible that contains introductory articles, notes, maps, charts, illustrations, glossaries, dictionary, concordances, and indexes. We recommend the The New Interpreter's Study Bible (NRSV).  

Are videos available dubbed in Spanish or Korean?
DISCIPLE videos are not available in Spanish. However, we do offer video transcripts in Spanish. The Korean DISCIPLE format does not include a video component.

Are Spanish resources available for the INTO THE WORD INTO THE WORLD, REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE, and UNDER THE TREE OF LIFE studies? 
DISCIPLE printed resources are available in Spanish for BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY only. Resources are also available in Korean for BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, INTO THE WORD INTO THE WORLD, and REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE.

Are DISCIPLE resources available for persons with vision or hearing impairments?

How soon can I expect to receive my order?
Each order usually is shipped within 3 to 5 business days. You may also visit your local Cokesbury Christian Bookstore to purchase resources.
 

How do I return unused DISCIPLE resources? 
If you have your original packing slip that came with your order, simply follow the instructions on the reverse side of the slip. Otherwise, send a letter of explanation that includes your church’s name, address, and account number to the following address:
